New Petanque Group Forming in the "City of Brotherly Love!"

 
 
 
Petanque enthusiast Bill Craig is leading an effort to establish a petanque club in Philadelphia. Here is his announcement and an invitation to join the online group…












    A Meetup group has been recently created for those in and around Philadelphia who are interested in pétanque.  People come together to play every Sunday at Clark Park in West Philadelphia, not far from the University of Pennsylvania and Drexel University.  For more details and to sign-up :








The organizers of the Meetup group and several other regular players plan to soon establish a Philadelphia region pétanque club associated with FPUSA.

Welcome to the Las Vegas Petanque Club! 
We are looking forward to playing with petanque players from other cities in the Southwest Region on Sunday March 31, 2013. We play on a terrain made of decomposed granite that is relatively flat, mostly hard (no rain!) but with some softer spots and some stones too. In the morning we will offer coffee and cookies, at lunch we will provide sandwiches, and after the games: apero! Note that there is no store around. Let us know if you are spending several days in town ...

From Summerlin Pkwy, take 3rd exit, the Rampart Blvd exit North. Stay on the right. Pass Angel Park golf course, and turn right into the park (before the traffic light of Vegas Drive). In the park, at the T, turn left and park. We play along the tennis courts.

SE Regional Doubles - Results -










Another great Tournament day in South Florida even though some people complaint of being on the cool side at times it looked that it was going to rain but never happened.
 There were a total of 20 Doubles Teams from St Augustine, Orlando, Sarasota, Lakeworth Boca and Miami and after the long day of playing the results were as follow:

SE Regional Triples - Results -

SE Triples in Lakeworth, FL.


The weather cooperated for the SE Regional Triples today at John Prince Park. We had 16 teams today from around the state of Florida, from Jupiter, Stuart, Boca, Sarasota, Oh la la Petanque Club and Boules de Leon as well as our usual cast of characters from the SFPC. The matches were hard- fought and the winners are: 

1st - Jacques Martinez/Elie Ohayon/Francis Cheru  

2nd- Gilles Canesse/Eric Moutard/Daniel Smith 

3rd-Jean Rolland/Bernard Martin/Claude Lauhle 

4th - Alain Girard/Philippe Tripouli/Frederic Penaranda

SE Mixed Triples - Results -






SE Regional Mixed Triples in Boca Raton FL.
  There were a total of 10 Mixed Triple Teams to battle it out at he Boca 2000 Playing grounds on another sunny and hot day of winter and at the end of the day the results were as follow:


1st Place  John Rolland + Marieke Rolland + Gilles Clairoux



2nd Place   Robichaud Michel + Gilles Lachance + Gina



3rd Place   Roger Arpaia  + Christian Cazenave + Denise Magas 



The Final was  not able to be played to 13 points but to as two more ends when both teams were tied at 6, both Teams were Ok with the decision due that was very dark and visibility was poor.

SE Regional Mixed Doubles Tournament - Boca Raton, FL.

Saturday morning started with some early showers that stopped before the Players arrived and left the ground wet for half of the day but continued with temperatures in the 80's. There were a total of 11 Mixed Doubles Teams with 4 preliminary games  and  8 Teams going forward.
there were Players from Canada, Maine, St Augustine, Jupiter, Lakeworth and Boca Raton.

SE "60+overs" Regional Doubles

(Sunday, November 18) The South Florida Petanque Club closed out the 2012 FPUSA tournament season by hosting the Southeast "60 + Over" Regional Doubles.

16 teams competed, and here are the results:

Women's World Championship Qualifier

Here  is additional info on the tournament weekend. 


Simultaneous with the 2-day Women's Qualifier will be 2 one-day tournaments open to members of any FPUSA club. 


Saturday Sept. 8 melee triples

Sunday Sept. 9 select doubles

Registration is $10 per person for each tournament.
All entrance $ will be distributed to top teams in the concours & consolantes.


Please contact Andre Strong  by Friday Sept 7 if you plan on participating by email (andrelstrong@gmail.com), and register on site by 8:30 the morning of the tournament. 

Awards dinner
At approx. 6pm on Sunday Sept. 9 will be a Down East Lobster dinner, on site, at the Boatyard Grill. Features steamed mussels, 1 1/4 - 1 1/2 lb. lobster, corn on the cob, red potatoes, salad and dessert. Price is $40 tax & tip included. If lobster is not desired alternatives will be available, please let us know in advance your preferences, Boatyard Grill will also be taking orders each morning for box lunches with a variety of sandwiches ($7 - $9). 

Maine Boules Club will be providing free coffee & pastries each morning and bottled water during the day.
MBC does not have a website but you can follow the club at MAINE BOULES CLUB on Facebook to see what the terrain looks like and for updates on weather predictions, photos, results etc.

The event drew 54 players in 18 teams of triplettes from across the Northwest region.

FPUSA NW Region results for Mixed Triples and Singles


FPUSA NW Region Mixed Triples winners

Over the weekend of July 28-29, 2012, the Portland Petanque Club hosted the FPUSA NW Region Mixed Triples and Men's and Women's singles.

Participating clubs included those from Oregon (EPIC, Rogue Bouligans), Washington(SPC, Edmonds, Walla Walla), and Northern California (REBC), all included in the FPUSA NW Region. 

The tournament began with a Friday afternoon "apero" and the drawing to place the 14 mixed triples teams into the Saturday morning qualifying games. 

Saturday, the matches got underway and after a break for lunch, the afternoon the 8 team concours and 6 team consolante commenced. By about 6pm the winning teams emerged. 

Mixed Triples
1st Place- Mickey and Nicole Coughlin and Doug Colleton (all REBC)
2nd Place- Joe Martin, Jen Sliker, Wally Peppel (all PPC)
3rd Place- Pierre, Isabelle, Philippe Agnesse (all PPC)
4th Place Shaughn McClug, Celia Crittenden (both PPC), J. Prince (REBC)

A well attended catered dinner at the club followed and players stayed until dark playing pick up games.

Sunday morning, both the Men's and the Women's singles commenced with 24 players in the men's and 8 in the women's.

Singles games go the fastest, so by 4:30PM, we had our winners.

In the Men's Singles, it was:

1st- Thai Nguyen (PPC)
2nd- Joe Martin (PPC)
3rd- Mickey Coughlin (REBC)
4th- Tim Larson (PPC)

A total of 27 teams competed in each event. Both events were held on courts alongside the new C.V. Starr aquatic Center in The seaside city of Fort Bragg.
Petanque players came from Oregon as well as the Northern California cities of San Francisco, San Rafael, Sonoma, Petaluma and sacramento. Even France was represented! The North Coast communities of Ukiah, Willits, Sea Ranch, fort Bragg, Mendocino, Little River and Albion were well represented in the first FPUSA event ever held in fort Bragg.
Eight NW clubs were represented: Redwood Empire Boules Club, Club Francais de Sacramento, Lamorinda Petanque Club, Boule d’Or (San Francisco), La Petanque Mariniere (Marin), Valley of the Moon Petanque Club (Sonoma), Petaluma Valley Petanque Club, Rogue Bouligans (Williams, OR).

The Portland Club is experienced in hosting title tournaments and our volunteers are known for working diligently to help competitors have a fulfilling weekend complete with great camaraderie and good food in a very pretty city known for its hospitality.
